How To Be Princess on a Pauper's Budget!If you're an enterprising mind and want to get in on the Online Retail Boom- visit often. I formed and lead a Group on eBay called
"Doing The Red Door- Newbies Stores Welcome!" and as time permits, I will post here tips and tidbits I post with the Group.
This is a very action-oriented group comprised mainly of "newbie store owners" as the name suggests. I got myself talked into doing this (*;*) and did with trepidation but- that's for another day.
If you ever want to check my store to see examples of what I'm talking about....just click my store logo. Drop me a note so I'd know you've visited.

#4. **How-To Do STORE HEADERS-A**There are 3 ways that I know of to do a Store Header. This is one of them. It looks tedious but is easy to follow, and hey...no guts no glory.
If you want to do it the eBay way- and be content with those tiny, microscopic pictures, that's fine too. Just search for "Headers" on the Help Section.
To refresh-
Store Header is that space right below your
Store Logo and Description. And anything you put in this space is not only visible at your Store therefore a good AD, but is also Search-able.
See my store here; those ADS are a Store Header, including the frame: http://stores.ebay.com/Dicen-Fashions-Outlet
Let's get started: Please follow the numbering (**1, **2, **3, etc.) and this sign (*****) if necessary:Prior to putting in the Header, do the following steps FIRST to get you ready:**1- you must have 3 ads or "inserts" ready to go into that header. It's either 3 items from your store, or 3 OR 4 CATEGORIES.
I vote to put in 4
Categories so that you don't have to change or replace it when you've sold out of that 1 item.
**2- If you don't have a suitable picture to represent your CATEGORY, download one from your computer file to eBay Picture Manager.
**3- How to prepare your 3-4 chosen categories:
-Go to Manage my Store-->Store Design-->HTML Builder-On the
HTML Builder page-->build a link to a
Store Page-->under
Content, click the drop down arrow and choose which category you want advertised-->under
Link Text, aside from the category name, add more keywords that the Search Engine spyders and crawlers would hone in. Don't worry if you run out of space, you can add more when you go to the Header and apply it there.
Next, move down to the next box which is
Link Image. Click the camera icon. When you click the camera icon, it will bring you to
Picture Manager. Choose from among the pictures you have in here which one represents your whole category, and click that picture.
In the next page that opens, you will see an html link of the picture. Right above that is
Choose Picture Size.
Choose Preview (200). (If the image that shows is too big for you, click Thumbnails instead.
You can go back and forth on this until you find the size you need. You have 3 choices; Thumbnails or 200 or 400<---this is full size.
After you selected the picture size, click
Add to Description. Once you click this, it will return you to the
Build Link to Store Page. Here, set the font type you want, and I recommend the size XS,
BOLD it. Then click
Preview.
In the
Preview Link to Store Page, you'll see your link, and right below it is the html for that link.
Now, click
Save as Insert.
Saving Inserts:****You would only be able to save
Inserts if you have a space for it.
You are allowed to save only 5 max. If you have that space, great!! If not-- You will need to delete, or empty 3 spaces in your
Inserts dropdown to be able to save these 3 links you're going to put up.
****To vacate or empty 3 spaces:
Go into your Inserts via a listing. Just for this purpose-- go revise a listing. When the item descriptions box opens, click
Inserts and delete 3 items in there.
****click and submit your revision so that the 3 spaces becomes empty or vacated.
REPEAT from Step **2 all the way down to
Save as Insert 2 or 3 more times.
***3- Add the HEADER:A--
Again: Manage My Store-->Store Design-->Display Settings-->scroll to the very bottom, Store Header Display-->click Change.B-- The next page that opens is
Edit Store Header Display.-->click
Yes, include additional information in the header. (Enter below).
C-- From the drop down,
Inserts arrow. In here, click your saved Inserts and start lining them up from
Left to Right. If you will notice, the cursor will naturally stop at the spaces on top where the next Insert is supposed to go. As long as it starts on the very top, as opposed to the middle of the page, you're doing good.
D-- After all 3 or 4 Category links are lined up...you may add more keywords as you want, just take care not to add too much since it's going to stretch the frame too much towards the bottom. You want your listings to appear near the top of the page and not be pushed far down by a super big header!!
E--
Click Save Settings.
Go to your store via your Red Door and see the effect of your work!!!! Yeayyyy!!! it's there.....
